Your Purse's New Best Friend!

It’s happened to the best of us: the dreaded “lost your keys in your stylish of-the-season bottomless purse” syndrome. This is even more embarrassing if you’re in public while doing it. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look very lady-like. But a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do! It seems like no matter how organized or clean your purse is, your keys always manage to hide in the weirdest nook or cranny. Well not any more! You will never have to root through your bag again! And of course you know I wouldn’t be so excited if it wasn’t fashionista-friendly too. Orangefish has hooked these awesome key finder charms. They keep your keys in an easy to find place while looking totally cute. It works for purses, backpacks, briefcases, and even diaper bags (yes, diapers can be fashionable too!) It comes in so many different designs that you can find one for any personality and age group. From crowns to hearts to music notes to flowers, there’s a charm for everyone! They use a super strong magnet that can go through almost any purse material. The magnet goes on the inside of you purse, and the keys stick to it. Then the sparkly charm goes on the outside for a little extra bling! The perfect marriage of style and function: brought to you by Orangefish.ca.

Have you ever lost your keys? Where’s the weirdest place you’ve found them?

Happy Early Halloween: New products and Costume Ideas!

Haunted attractions, ghost tours, bonfires and trick or treating is just around the corner so get into the spirit for the festival of the dead.  Here are three quick tips to get into the other world!

1.  Get your hands on this custom made Skull Chain necklace so you will be the most stylish and sassy scallywag at the party. Check it out at Orangefish.ca!

2.   Boo!  Send out some scary but cute Hallowe’en greetings to your fellow matey’s.
3.  Happy Hallowe’en!  Decorate your home with a special message on the chalkboard vase.

Halloween is only a few days away but for all you procrastinators out there who are still looking for some good costume ideas, I’ve got a few up my sleeve. I picked simple costumes that are easy to put together in a few minutes using items you probably already have in your closet. Halloween is a ton of fun, but dragging yourself from costume shop to costume shop to find the perfect get-up and ending up spending $70.00 on a mediocre costume is no fun at all (I speak form personal experience!). Here are a few of my favs (some of which I’ve actually tried before)

Birthday/Christmas Present.
This is so easy its ridiculous. All you need is a large plastic gift bag with either Christmas print or birthday print from the dollar store. I’m not talking about those stiff gift bags you put tissue paper in but the giant ones made from garbage bag material that are used for very large gifts. Just cut off the bottom of the bag and then step into the middle of it. (you may need to adjust the fit using some tape) Use gift string or ribbon to fit the bag around your waist and create a flattering shape. The finishing touch is a giant present bow that you can attach to a headband and wear on your head.

Lady Gaga
This is a hugely popular costume this year. Pick your favorite Gaga outfit (preferably not her controversial meat dress) and get together a crazy collection of leotards, tights, glasses, and a blonde wig.

The Night Sky
Wear a flattering black dress or shirt and pant combo. Then, using metallic gold paper, cut out stars in different shapes. Or use glow in the dark stars for a little extra fun! Tape these stars to your black clothing. Then, using the star garland you can buy around Christmas time that goes on your tree, create a crown for your head. Then, use some gold glitter eyeshadow to add a little extra sparkle. You can also put gold sparkles in your hair or on your body. This is great last minute option! And it’ll cost only a dollar or two.

iPod
This works great if you’re in a group. You can all be the different iPod colours. Get a solid colour dress in one of the iPod nano colours. Then, cut out the shape of the iPod screen and wheel. Tape them to the front of your dress. Now this is the fun part! On the back, create your own phrase starting with “i” and tape it to you. For example, “iMove” or “iSing” or “iFlirt” . Pick something that suits your personality or has a bit of humor. If you have children, you can be the larger white or black classic iPod and they can be the colourful iPod nanos.

The Single Ladies
We all love this Beyonce music video! All you need is a black leotard, some skin coloured tights, black heels, and a nice big ring. And maybe some major confidence to pull off the no-pants look.
Another music video related costume is Madonna in the like a virgin video or one of your other favorite videos. Her style is so recognizable everyone will know who you are!

And there you have it! Halloween ideas compliments of Galaxy Girl! Good luck with your costume hunt and feel free to add any ideas you have in the comments section below!
Remember to have a happy and safe night whether you are tricking or treating!

The Wonderful World of Fall TV

Now that we’re into October, its time to look at how our favorite fall tv shows are doing. First, I need to start with the biggest television show in Canada right now, The Big Bang Theory. It regularly gets 3 to 4 million viewers in a country with only 33 million people in it! Now that’s impressive! I’ve been a fan of Big Bang Theory since the beginning of season two, and I have to say it just keeps getting better! If you’re not familiar with the show, you should be. It’s a comedy about 4 nerdy science geniuses and a blonde waitress/actress. As I’m sure you can guess, hilarity enues. I fall on the floor laughing at least once an episode. This season has gone above and beyond my expectations and I would highly recommend it. And a Canadian band sings the theme song! That wins them extra points with me!

Last years big success Glee has been a bit of a disappointment this fall. I’ve always been a huge musical fan, and throw a little Jane Lynch humor in and you’ve got me sold. But it seems that this fall the show is just lacking that special quirk it had last year. Even the Brittany Spears tribute episode didn’t compare to their Madonna episode. I have yet to feel the raw emotion I felt when Kurt’s father defended his son against Finn’s homophobic remarks. And I haven’t laughed as hard as I did at typical Brittany quotes like "When I pulled my hamstring I went to a misogynist" or "I'm pretty sure my cat's been reading my diary." How are you other Gleeks out there feeling about this season?

Grey’s Anatomy, a perennial favorite of mine has also been a little lackluster. I miss the days of McDreamy, McSteamy, and McVet. Season 1,2, and 3 are definitely the most memorable for me. There's a part deep down inside me that keeps wishing McVet would make a reappearance. He was a total cutie. I feel like recently they’ve just been dragging out something that maybe should quit while it’s ahead. Don’t get me wrong, the shocking season finale was amazing…but where do you go from there? Anyone agree with me? Disagree?

One show I have yet to watch, but am considering getting into is Mad Men. Are there any Mad Men fans out there? What do you think? Should I watch it?

If you’ve been keeping up with any amazing shows, please comment down below and let me know. I may have some openings in my weekly tv schedule with all the disappointments this season.

Just Hooked: Loveable Stuffed Animals and Pacifiers

We all have fond childhood memories of our favorite stuffed animals. They were scruffy, and their stuffing was coming out, but you still loved them. Even as a child I was a bit of a drama queen. My stuffed bears and bunnies were always the audience for my improvised dance numbers or monologues. Stuffed animals seem to be more than toys. They’re friends that comfort you when the world seems scary. With all the high tech toys around today (which I do love, don’t get me wrong), it’s nice to see that stuffed animals are still around. I think they’ll always fill that need for a soft cuddly hug.

Orangefish is introducing some adorable new products that your children will be sure to love. “Cheery Cheeks” stuffed animals are fun and colourful and will brighten any child’s day. You can’t help but smile when you see them. The fabric is so soft and cuddly, that even adults will want to give the Cheery Cheeks buddies a little hug.
The “Pattern Pizzazz” animals are totally trendy and funky but also 100% huggable. And they all coordinate! So you can collect a few and they’ll each compliment each other and make a decorative statement in any room. Your child will love the fun prints and the soft velour fabric. I can’t help but say “awww” when I look at these. One look at their cute smiling faces and I can’t help but rewind back to my childhood.
The Wuba Nub pacifiers are a product that gets me very excited. They’re brand new, award winning pacifiers that are cute as a button. The size of the pacifier will ensure that you never lose it under the couch or in a corner again. And the adorable animals are sure to be loved and cherished by your baby during their first months of discovering the world around them.
All the products are certified by the CPSC so you can spend your time playing with your child instead of worrying about their safety. You’ll love their style and your child will love the characters and you’ll both love how soft and cozy they are.

Let's Start a New Trend: Love

I feel the need to take a short break from my usual subject matter to talk about an issue that that recently been brought to the media’s attention. One of my passionate beliefs is that every human is unique and that we should each be excited to let our personality, values, and style shine for the whole world to see. Unfortunately, so many of us are afraid to stand out from what we believe to be “normal”. We are afraid of bullies, and judgmental glaring strangers.

For most of us, the fear of judgment is a daily occurrence, but life experience has taught us to tune most of it out. But for some people, especially children and teens, who are still developing their own coherent sense of self, bullying can be incredibly hurtful, and as we’ve seen lately, possibly deadly.

The news in the last few weeks has been full of horrible stories of kids, most under the age of 15, who have committed suicide as a result of homophobia and bullying. Ellen DeGeneres herself released a heartfelt message that has spread like wildfire throughout YouTube. She begged for homophobia to stop in the media, politics, and everyday life. Adults making hurtful and malicious comments about a person’s sexual orientation can have a profound effect on how youth approach others who they see as different from themselves. No one should be afraid to hide their true self, especially teens and children.

I sincerely hope that Ellen’s message has been heard loud and clear. We all have our own bullying stories, and we know how much even the smallest comment or dirty look can hurt. So lets all spread a little love! Looks like love and acceptance is the hot trend this season! I’m going to wear it loud and proud.

What Exactly is Beautiful?

How many times have you heard someone say “you’re beautiful”? It gets me wondering exactly what makes a person beautiful? When do you feel the most confident and radiant? I think it’s impossible to define beauty because it means a little something different to everyone. We all know what our media thinks is beautiful: perfect hair, skin, a thin body (with boobs and a butt of course). But if you’ve ever watched Jessica Simpson’s new show “True Beauty” you’ll probably have realized that definition is just confined to our Western mass culture.

One of the coolest YouTube videos I’ve seen was released by Dove a few years ago. Incase you haven’t seen it, watch it below. It shows just how this mass definition of beauty is created, and how much work it takes through technology to achieve. So I say, feel confident, love yourself, and you’ll be beautiful. I use my clothes, and shoes, and makeup as a form of personal art to show my true personality to the world. I love all my unique qualities, so why not let them shine instead of trying to blend into what “society” says is beautiful.

Since most of us normal people don’t have makeup crews following us around, or graphic designs editing out all our possible flaws, I always love finding a little beauty tip. At home beauty treatments are a great way to take a few moments to yourself, away from work or any other stresses in life. Kick back, watch a chick flick, and indulge for a little while.

Do you have any favorite at home beauty treatments?

Here are a few of my favorite tips and tricks:

Refreshing Easy Body Scrub:
Cut a grapefruit in half. Apply sugar to the top half of the grapefruit. Rub over your body and feel great as the grapefruit exfoliates and refreshes your skin.

Perfect Pre- Pedicure treatment:
Mix a cup of granulated sugar with 2 tablespoons of either almond or sesame oil, whatever you have in the house. Gently rub the mixture over your feet for a few minutes (or get your special someone to give you a nice relaxing foot message). Then rinse and dry your feet and pull on your fluffiest cotton socks. After a few hours you’ll find that your feet are super moisturized. Then, add your favorite polish to your toes later and don’t be afraid to wear those cute peep toe wedges you have hiding in your closet.

Just Hooked: Makeup Bags with Flair

I bet you never thought a makeup case could be fashionable. They’re just plain black cases you throw everything into and chuck into your bag when you go on a trip. Right…?

Wrong. You’ve never seen a makeup bag like this before. Do they look a little familiar to you? That’s because they’re designed to look like retro synchronized swimmers caps. We all know retro is totally in right now. It’s the perfect mix of nostalgia and fashion! The best part is they’re designed from 100% waterproof materials so you can spill water and makeup all over them and easily clean it off with a wipe or two. Because dirty cases are definitely not attractive (or hygienic for that matter!)

They’re roomy enough to fit all your essentials, but not too big that you can’t bring it on any company trip or family vacation. This is the Ferrari of makeup cases. Fun, funky, and full of enough flower power to brighten any dull morning, these bags are a must have! I’ve never seen anything like them before, which is the best part! Who doesn’t love having something before the rest of the masses do. Be a trend-setter and bask in all the great attention your unique bag will bring your way.

Here’s a random gift tip: If you have a teen daughter, this would make a super funky pencil case that would be easy to keep clean and would have all her classmates and friends ooh-ing and ahhing.

What’s your favorite item in your makeup bag? Mine has to be mascara. Never leave the house without it!
