Lady O's Legacy

It’s the end of a decade (or a few decades). The Queen of the talk show is officially stepping down from her golden throne. This is Oprah’s last season, and the whole world is secretly thinking “what will I watch at 4:00 every day?” or “great, now I’ll never have a chance to get on her ‘my favorite things’ show”.

Her theme this season is “living a beautiful life”. That phrase means something a little different to everyone. To me it’s about having good relationships, balancing relaxation and productivity, making sure to spend time in nature, freely expressing my creativity, and every once in a while doing something a little wild or unexpected.

What does “living a beautiful life” mean to you?

She’s definitely kicked off her new season in typical Oprah fashion: with a huge surprise that makes everyone who wasn’t in the audience super jealous. On her season premiere she revealed that she was sending the whole audience to Australia. Yes, Austrailia! Not Ohio, or Mississippi, but Australia! You can’t deny that Lady O knows how to execute a great surprise. Oprah, if you’re reading this, how’d you like to set up a surprise party for me? (hey! You never know. She could read this one day…maybe)

Everyone probably has their own favorite Oprah moment. Other than the classic Tom Cruise jumping on her couch incident, one of my favorite Oprah moments has to be during the Chicago block party last year. I’m such a sucker for a good ol’ flash mob, so I loved this coordinated dance to “I’ve got a feeling”. Check it out but I’ll warn you, it may result in some finger drumming/toe tapping.

What’s your favorite Oprah memory?

Weekly Special: For the Guys!

As I’m sure most of you have realized, many of my blog entries have been geared towards the ladies. But lets not forget about the guys! So this blog is all about you boys. Everyone needs a little style in their life!

This week’s special at Orangefish is perfect for the stylish guy (or the girl whose tired of her boyfriend/husband’s sweats). Suits can look sharp and classy, but they all look the same! Blending into the sea of suits is no fun; so add a little extra excitement! Cufflinks are a great way to add a little unique personality to a suit, yet still keep it looking professional. Why not show off your favorite sport with sport-themed cufflinks.
Or demonstrate your love of Canada with Maple Leaf or Beer and Hockey cufflinks.
Or if you want something that’s chic with a healthy injection of colour check out the pixel or camoflauge cufflinks.
It’s the perfect way to finish of an outfit and you don’t even have to step foot inside a busy store. You can do it right from your desk chair while watching pre-season hockey. Everything is 25% off so you can look like a million dollars for under sixty dollars! The only thing that could make this better is free shipping. Well, spend $100 or more and you can get that too!

Drumroll Please. And the Winner is....

It’s that time folks. Everyone’s favorite part of a contest…when we announce the winners! Drumroll please….

In first place we have Chantelle Smith with a whopping 206 votes. Her wish was “to be debt free”. After the last few years of the economic downturn I’m sure most people can totally relate to her wish. Good luck Chantelle, I hope your wish comes true. And to add a little extra wishing magic, now you’ll have a gorgeous sterling silver wishbone necklace to wear and an I wish bracelets.
In second place we have Susan Saunders and her wish to “finnish building my home”. Susan has won a funky tote bag and an I wish bracelet.

In third place we have Katherine Lewis and her wish “to have a personal assistant”. Don’t we all! I’d love someone to fetch me a coffee right now, but it looks like I’ll just have to work the coffee machine myself. Katherine has won 3 I wish bracelets.
Thank you to everyone who participated; there were some fabulous entries. I hope all your wishes, whether big or small come true! And if not, you can always enter our next contest and win more great prizes.

Until then, I know how much everyone loves a good contest. I found a great website where you can browse some awesome sweepstakes, and possibly win prizes like a Trip to New York City!

One of my favorites is Exotic tours’ Eat, Pray, Love contest where you have a chance to win an all-inclusive trip to Bali. Who doesn’t want to vacation Julia Roberts’ style!

Another great contest for any brides out there in the Toronto area is Gathering’s Event Planning Coordination Contest. You could win a $5000 wedding coordinator to plan the wedding of your dreams. If you’re anything like me, then I’m sure you watch all those wedding tv shows on TLC and SLICE networks and dream of one day having someone who will do all the stressful dirty work for you. Here’s your chance!

Good luck to everyone on their future contest endeavors and keep me updated if you win anything! Also, don’t forget to check back for any future Orangefish contests.

The Newest Girly Treasures

Hey Blog world! Man have I got some goodies for you today! Orangefish has some new products that are practical and fashionista-friendly - my favorite combo!

The FUMI purse hook is the coolest purse accessory I’ve seen in a while. It’s a purse hanger, decoration, and bracelet all in one! Oh, and did I mention it's made from recycled materials, so it's eco-friendly. Yeah, I know that it sounds way too good to be true. News flash: it’s not! Purse hangers have been popping up everywhere lately. And it makes so much sense! Us girls spend a little too much of our cash on glamorous handbags (I know I do! That and shoes of course). I literally cringe every time I look at the dirty floor I have to put my brand new bag on. Purse hooks are the perfect solution! You can hang your purse off the table instead and keep it looking brand new. Handbags deserve a little love too so give them the respect they deserve! And when you’re not using the FUMI to protect your bag, you can wear it as a super cute bracelet. If you’re already all accessorized, you can use it to add a little extra bling to your bag and hang it off the strap. Check out this video about how to use the purse hook.
I know how a little style goes a long way. That’s why I love these new coordinating products from Orangefish. There’s a USB stick, tampon case, purse hanger, and business card case in a variety of designs. Whether you choose to coordinate your designs, or mix and match them you’ll be bringing some extra fun to your every-day routine.
Give your computer a little love with this ultra-chic USB stick. If you’ve ever had an embarrassing incident where your tampons fell out of your purse right in front of your crush you’ll love this personal case. Networking is all about standing out. Why not show off your style with a fashionable and fun business card case. It’s still business appropriate but unique enough that you’ll be memorable.

I hope you love these new products as much as I do! Check them out at Orangefish

Don't forget to enter the "What's Your Wish Contest" to win a grand prize valued at over $120.00! All you have to do is:

TIFF Comes to Town

It’s that special time of year ladies and gentlemen; TIFF is in town! And with it comes a flurry of celebrities and crowds of fans.  If you live in Toronto, or know people who do, you may have noticed your Facebook mini feed become overwhelmed with status updates and mobile photo uploads of your friend’s latest celebrity stalking escapades.

Orangefish’s CEO Janet Lewis got into the action and attended the TIFF opening night party. The drinks were flowing with Skyy vodka as the party’s sponsor. I now have a new drink recipe to test out: the Skyy Berry Baruchel. It’s made with Skyy vodka, lemon juice, elderflower cordial, and blueberry juice. Give it a try and let me know what you guys think!

Here’s a little TIFF gala fashion insider from Janet: Jeannie Becker certainly has her work cut out for her in Canada - there were some pretty outrageous outfits - from skin tight zebra print dresses and matching shoes, to men in brocade jackets. Oh, and people wearing jeans…to a gala. Clearly some people haven’t watched enough episodes of “What Not to Wear”.

And it wasn’t just the fans sporting some major fashion crimes. Celebs (both A, B and C-list) were doing it left and right. Check out Nellie Furtado’s unflattering getup. I’m not quite sure what her stylist was thinking when she came up with this douze. Nellie we know you can do better!

Thankfully stars like Megan Fox (yes, you read that right: Megan Fox) were a breath of fresh fashionista air with stylish ensembles. I’m absolutely loving the nude heel trend, in fact I just recently grabbed myself a pair. And her white dress is simple but classy. I also love Rachelle Lefevre's Bandage dress. It's super flattering. Unfortunately, Finding a best dressed this year was more difficult than usual with typically stylish celebs like Blake Lively donning unflattering and oddly designed outfits.

There’s still plenty of TIFF excitement to come. And thank goodness too! Checking the best and worst dressed lists daily has kept me quite busy. And i’m still crossing my fingers to catch a glimpse of the dashing James Franco.

Have you spotted any celebs around t-dot lately? Share your stories or pictures!

Extreme Makeover: Office Desk Edition

A few days ago I wrote about how to customize your kid’s school supplies. As much as I love flowers and rhinestones, I know that I need something slightly more professional for the office. That’s why I love these office supplies. They’re super fun and colorful but still totally appropriate for the office.

If you ask me cubicles have a bad rap. Why? Because they’re so completely boring. You’re not a boring person I’m sure, so why does your cubicle look the same as everyone else? I think desks are a great opportunity to inject as much of your personality as possible into a small space. When I used to look at my plain standard black stapler, all I could think about was how much I dreaded all the paperwork I would have to staple with it. These new products make me dread it a little less. If anything else I just love demonstrating how they work to everyone, and watching their jealous looks as they glance back at their own dreary supplies. I love my work, so why not express that through the supplies I use. Colorful, fun office essentials give off a positive energy that can translate to my work.

My favorites would have to be the Elvis tape dispenser and the Oskar sticky notes. Who knew something as simple as tape could be so much fun! I love how vibrant all the colours are too. If you want, you can even coordinate your bookmarks with your tape, with your paperclip holder. No one can ever claim that your desk is boring ever again!

Getting Crafty This School Year

September 7th is finally upon us which means school has started. The parade of yellow school buses are back on the road and the magic of the first day of school is in the air. I remember back in my younger elementary school years, I used to get so excited to sharpen that new pencil, pick out the perfect binders, or get all the accessories to decorate my locker (yes, even then I was the queen of accessorizing). As you all probably know, i’m all about letting your own unique style shine. Customizing boring old school supplies is a great way to add a little flair to everday life and keep your kids or tweens busy during the rainy weather (that we’ve been having so much of lately). Who knew a glue gun could be so much fun!

Here are my favorite tips:
  1. Fabulous Magnets: This is a great crafty tip if you have a tween daughter. Try gluing fake flowers and rhinestones to cheap magnets you can buy at the dollar store. They make any old locker super fun and stylish and perfect for a fashionista-in-training.
  2. Fancy Bulletin Boards: Bulletin boards are pretty much the most boring thing ever. If you have any old necklaces lying around the house that you never wear, why not use them to spruce up that ugly yet useful cork board in your kid’s room. First, paint the border a fun colour, then using either full strands or individual beads, and your trusty glue gun, glue the beads around the border.
  3. Creative Textbooks: No kid loves lugging around those 40-pound textbooks. A popular trend is to use fun fabric to create a cover for your textbook. I love this idea, but a great twist to it for a younger boy is to use an old sport’s jersey (clean of course!) for the fabric. Or for the stylish music fan, try using a concert t-shirt.

Keep a lookout this week for brand new office supplies at Orangefish. We’ve picked out the coolest office accessories, and are offering our members the best discounts with a new promotion called “Hook, Line, and Sinker”. Check out this exclusive sneak peek below of a few of the items.
Do you have any tips for bringing your kids back to school in style?

Sales Are A Girl's Best Friend

They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend. But let’s face it, they’re not exactly our wallet’s BFF. Plus, even though diamonds can be a classy staple accessory, unless your dishing out enough for the heart of the ocean from Titanic, then it’s probably going to be pretty small and not a ton of fun. And if you’ve even read a few of these blogs, you know how much I love to have fun. So in the name of gorgeous jewelry that gives your wallet a break Orangefish is having an amazing sale on some of our most unique jewelry (and what’s more fun than a sale!).

Whether you’re a necklace, bracelet, or earring person we’ve got some gorgeous pieces that will add a little extra flair to your wardrobe and they’re all 30% off! Some of the pieces are trendier, like the asteroid necklace, while some are more classic like the meteor earrings. So whatever your taste is, grab your favorites before they sell out. Even my favorite Treasure Bracelet is on sale, and I’m sure a few of you have been secretly eyeing it.

Have fun browsing these awesome deals and enjoy all the style guilt-free! Grab some bling for yourself, and maybe a little extra for a perfect gift for a friend. I think it’s official: sales are a girl’s best friend.

Check out these trendy outfits I put together that incorporate the Astroid Chain Necklace and the Planet Bracelet.

Contest Alert!: What's Your Wish?

Summer is steadily coming to a close,  but that doesn’t mean the summertime magic has to end. In my opinion, if  I can still get away with wearing my gladiator sandles and strapless dresses then summer is still going strong!

I’m so excited to tell you guys about this special contest coming up. I’m a big fan of wishing; whether it’s tossing a penny in a fountain or waiting for 11:11, there’s  a sense of magic that surrounds wishes. Orangefish.ca has created the “What’s Your Wish” contest. We want to hear your wishes and give you the chance to win a gorgeous sterling silver wish bone necklace valued at $115.00 and your very own I Wish bracelet!

I love the whimsy of this necklace. It’ll bring back childhood memories of fighting over the wishbone at thanksgiving (minus all the messy turkey juice).  And Jennifer Aniston’s character in the film “He’s Just not That into you” also wore a similar pendant. So if your wish is to be famous then you’re one step closer!

We’ve made it extra easy to enter the contest!  All it takes is one sentence! Tell us what your biggest wish is and you could win.  It is as easy as 1,2,3:

            1. Become a fan on our Facebook page
      2. Post your wish on the contest page by completing the following
                statement “I wish...”
      3. Tell your friends to vote for your wish in order to win!

It starts September 6, so start thinking! It’ll run for 2 weeks so you’ll have plenty of time to Facebook all your friends, and get them to vote for you. Whether your wish is for a pair of sky-high Christian Louboutin pumps or world peace write it down and who knows with a little magic and a click of your heels maybe it will come true.
