You Can Make It In New York
One of my
favourite songs of all time is by Alicia Keys – Empire State of Mind. Even
though I myself cannot carry a tune, I love to blast this song. It is totally
inspiring and makes you feel like – “Wow if only I lived in NYC I would be
uber-uccessful right now because that is where dreams really do come true!”
Check out this verse and imagine Alicia singing it out:
Even if it ain’t all it seems, I got a pocketful of dreams
Baby, I'm from New York
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of
There's nothing you can't do
Now you're in New York
These streets will make you feel brand new
Big lights will inspire you
Hear it for New York, New York, New York!
I love the big apple! It is probably one of my favourite city escapes of all time and today I wanted to take a look at three fab designers from NYC that have already made it big. These three ladies show that NYC is the city that never sleeps and the place where dreams do come true! These lines have been featured in Cosmo, People, Lucky, In Style and even Oprah over the years.
Amrita Singh
Based in SoHo, NYC, Amrita infuses her fashion-forward pieces with the most beautiful traditions of Indian jewelry. I might not appreciate Indian food, but I do love their jewelry! It is so bold, bright and colorful! She is super popular for her bangles and is really known for creating statement necklaces, cocktail rings, chandelier earrings, and other celeb-worthy pieces that sparkle and shine.
Amrita’s
creations have appeared in Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Women's Wear Daily, O Magazine,
Marie Claire, Glamour, In Style, W Magazine, and dozens of other fashion and
lifestyle publications.
Born & raised in Queens NY, Roberta graduated with a degree in graphic design & communications from Parson's School of Design in New York City. Roberta has worked in various roles for Clinique, L'Oreal, Ralph Lauren, Paloma Picasso, Giorgio Armani and Yves Saint Laurent. This lady has got it going on. She has worked for some of the biggest names in fashion and then was able to make it on her own!
This couture jewelry collection is designed in New York City and handcrafted in Rhode Island. The designs are beautifully finished and plated with the finest metals, 22kt. gold and platinum- glass, semi precious stones and SWAROVSKI® ELEMENTS. Everyone who knows me – knows I love the bling without the high price tag. These pieces definitely make a statement and will cause other women to say “heh – where did you get that?”.
These pieces have appeared in Ladies Home Journal, Red Book, Glow, Audrey, Brides, Vogue, Sports Illustrated, InStyle, People, Lucky and dozens of other fashion and lifestyle publications.
Her jewelry and accessories are worn by celebrities including Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Paige Davis and many more!

KiraKira
Jewellry
Suz Somersal started KiraKira in 2007, when she lived and studied jewelry and metalsmithing in Italy and Japan. I like this girl – she has really gone out into the world to see what is happening! In 2011, Suz moved across the world to NYC where she partnered with Whitney Blake. Outgrowing two apartments and three showrooms, KiraKira has shipped over 10,000 of KiraKira's signature fuchsia boxes to customers and boutiques around the world. She discovered the key to her success and is truly living the dream.

Now let’s talk
style. KiraKira's aesthetic is modern but nostalgic, often sourcing inspiration
from the nature and architecture of the world's most exotic locations. I love
that some of her pieces are so delicate just like nature intended. She mixes
vintage with modern and it just works!
These pieces
have appeared in Self, Star, Cosmopolitan, InTouch, People, Harpers, Lucky,

Until next time... stay looking fab!

Who's Your Daddy? A Father's Day Gift Guide
Who’s Your Daddy?
A Father`s Day Gift Guide
Dad’s come in many shapes,
sizes and personalities but one thing they all have in common is that they are
super hard to buy for! I always find it
so challenging to find something great for my dad. Yes, yes, I know he will always love a case
of beer but that doesn’t exactly shout out “I love you and thanks for being a
great dad” does it? Here are some of the
types of dad’s that might be out there in our universe.
The Most Powerful Dad in the Galaxy!
Darth Vader dad is a man of mystery. Sure you know a lot about him but it is really only what he wants you to know – that he is powerful and that you should never cross him. If you think straight A’s, varsity athletics, or charity work is going to impress this dad think again! You had better get you a** home on time and don’t ever speak back to him or your mother. He rules with a heavy hand and has an empire to back him up. There really is only one gift for this dad – a miniature version of himself. Luke may the force be with you!

The Man of Steel Dad
Just like Clark Kent he is kind of quiet, reliable
and nice to your friends but anytime there is a problem Super Dad appears! He is a problem solver and always willing to
give a hand to those in needs. He likes
to stick up for the underdog and take on the villain. He is the dad that kids love and respect;
adore and honor; and, obey and follow. This is the dad that swoops in to save
the day!

The “James Bond” Dad - AKA 007
Like James Bond, your dad
that is always off on a mission. He has
places to be and people to see. Dressed
to the 10’s and ready to take on the town or anyone who gets in his way? He
has impeccable taste that cannot be confined to any single genre. He looks
good, drives a perfectly washed-and-buffed luxury car, enjoys only the choicest
single malts or cigars and always seems to have just the right gadget to make
life easier. He is also a sucker for
helping beautiful ladies in distress.

The “Trekie” Dad
Anyone who is a true Trekie cannot keep this secret
in the vault. Your dad likes “to go
boldly where no man has gone before”... even if it is just to a new restaurant
or park down the street! He is full of
adventure and is always amazed at nature’s awesomeness. You can either go with
him or stay home – it doesn’t matter to him but just remember “You are the one
missing out”! He is one of the good
guys!

The “Joker” Dad
Sometimes you might feel
like your dad is a super villain because of all the embarrassing moments he has
caused you with the tricks he likes to play on you and your friends. Not only can he dish it but he can also take
it and loves it when a good prank is also pulled on him. This is a dad that likes to laugh and there
is never anything too serious to talk about.
All your
friends tell you how awesome your dad is.

The Athletic Dad
This is the dad that is
still superfit... or maybe he has a bit of a belly but one thing is for sure he
likes to relive his glory days – you know when he was an all-star hockey player
on that farm team so many eons ago. He still thinks he is a super athlete and
wants to relive his professional dreams through you, his rightful heir to
athletic success! He is the coach of
your teams and likes to make sure everyone knows who is running the play!

The “Do Everything Yourself” Dad
Hire someone to do what? Not while your dad is around! He’s never met a problem he hasn't been
willing to take on himself, and he’s a tireless tinkerer, and will travel far
and wide to get just the right tool or part. Take the car to a mechanic to
change the oil – why bother – he can do it himself. Everyone knows that this Dad likes a beer or
two either during or after every good project.

The Tech Dad
A tech dad is
easy to spot. He knows everything
about computers, cell phones, digital cameras, the Internet, gaming systems and
all things technological. He texts and browses with the latest Smartphone,
keeps his computer running smoothly with all the latest software updates and
won’t be caught dead watching Game of Thrones on anything less than
the best-reviewed HDTV and programming device.
